Why is there sales tax on my order?
CompanyBox is legally required to charge sales tax on orders shipped to a state where CompanyBox has a “sales tax nexus”, unless you are exempt from sales tax in that state. Sales tax is determined based on the state (and, in some cases, county or city) of each order’s shipping destination address, not the state where your business is headquartered or the state of your billing address. If you are shipping your order to a state in which you are not exempt from sales tax, your order will include sales tax at checkout. All collected sales tax will be remitted back to the state that requires the collection of this tax. No percentage of sales tax is kept by CompanyBox.

If you are exempt from sales tax, you must provide CompanyBox with a valid sales tax exemption certificate in the applicable state before your order is placed. We have limited ability to refund sales taxes after an order is placed.

*Please note: If you are shipping to multiple states, you must provide a valid exemption certificate for EACH state in which you claim exemption. Tax calculation is based on the destination shipping address of each order.

If, after you’ve paid the invoice, it is determined that more sales tax is due, then you must promptly remit the required taxes to the applicable taxing authority or immediately reimburse CompanyBox for any additional sales taxes that it is required to remit on your behalf.

Even if CompanyBox does not collect sales tax from you, you may owe sales tax on your purchase. Unless you live in Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, or Oregon, your state most likely requires purchasers to report and pay sales tax on all purchases that are not taxed at the time of sale. For more information, please visit your state’s department of taxation website or contact your tax professional.
